REVIEWS
Distant Waves: A Novel of the Titanic by Suzanne Weyn Teen
Weyn
Summary from book: Sisters and their widowed mom, a famed spiritualist,
go from NY to London. As the Titanic takes them and journalist W.T.
Stead, scientist Nikola Tesla, and industrialist John Jacob Astor home, Tesla’s
inventions will either doom or save them all.
Solid writing; good narrative. Historical setting is interesting.
The author blends science & the supernatural well. The whole Titanic
theme seems a little forced. B- (opinion by patron Courtney Newcomer)

Funny How Things Change by Melissa Wyatt Teen Wyatt
Summary from book: Remy, talented 17 year old auto mechanic, questions his
decision to join his girlfriend when she starts college in PA after a visiting
artist helps him realize what his family’s home in a dying WV mountain town
means to him.
Interesting to see a female writer develop a main male character so well.
Easy to read, but not particularly memorable or striking. C+ (opinion by patron
Courtney Newcomer)

Need by Carrie Jones Teen Jones, Teen AD Jones
Summary from book: Depressed after her stepfather’s death, high school junior
Zara goes to live with her grandmother in a small ME town, where new friends
tell her the strange man she keeps seeing may be a pixie king, and that only
“were” creatures can stop him from taking souls.
Really enjoyed the characters! I liked how the “romance” wasn’t as large of
a focus. The plot was solid and very engrossing. Some parts were “eww” (think
Twilight with shapeshifters), but otherwise different and entertaining.
A- (opinion by patron Courtney Newcomer) Courtney actually listened to the audiobook
of this.
