Lincoln Parish was established in 1873 as part of the reconstruction period after the American Civil War. The parish was named after President Abraham Lincoln and was created from pieces of Bienville, Claiborne, Union, and Jackson parishes.
Clues from the Past
Throughout northern Louisiana, several indigenous sites have been located and dated from about 3300–2600 BCE. Hedgepeth Site is located in Lincoln Parish and dates to the more recent part of this period.
Lincoln Parish is largely supported by the forestry industry. Lincoln Parish was once considered the Peach Capitol, but peach farming has dwindled over the past 30 years due to hard freezes in the 1980s and fungus in the 1990s.
