Research Services

User & Information Services is a one stop shop for all of your information needs! Located at the front desk, at the information kiosks, and in the stacks, UIS staff are always happy to help with research for school projects, general interest, personal projects, genealogy, and basic research skills. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance.

Technology Services

If you need assistance using the Library’s online catalog or any of the digital services available through the Library on your personal device, we’re here to help. We can also provide basic assistance with photocopying, printing, and scanning as well as using the Library’s public computers.

Reader (and Watcher) Services

If you need help locating items available in the Library building, in the digital library, or through Interlibrary Loan, we’re happy to assist. We are also able to provide personalized recommendations for users seeking new materials. For even more reader (and watcher) services, ask about joining the LPL Readers Club, pick up the latest Readers Alert or Cinephile, and learn about upcoming events like author visits in the newsletter.

Registering for a Library Card

To find out if you are eligible for a library card from LPL and what you need to bring to the Library with you to register, see our Library Card Policy. UIS staff will create your card for you when you arrive.

Account Maintenance

UIS staff can help you with renewing your library card registration, replacing a lost card, updating your account information, and paying fines and fees. These actions must be completed in-person at the Library. Registration for most LPL library cards must be renewed every two years.

Reserving, Borrowing, Renewing, & Returning Items

UIS handles checking items out for use with a valid library card, item renewals and returns, item reservations, and fines for overdue, lost, or damaged items. Reserves and renewals can be requested over the phone. As long as your account is in good standing (up to date and fine-free), you can also place holds and request up to two renewals on most items yourself through the Librista app or by logging into your account using the My Account button at the top of this website. While UIS staff is equipped to handle the vast majority of questions, staff is unable to provide tax advice, legal advice, medical advice, or type, critique, or edit user documents such as resumes. We provide service to all users on an equal, nondiscriminatory basis in adherence with American Library Association’s Code of Ethics.
