Dr. Susan Roach will discuss Easter Rock, an Easter eve vigil ritual, solely documented in the plantation churches of Northeast Louisiana. Created by uprooted, enslaved people, this antebellum, women-led tradition survives in Winnsboro, LA.
Exploring scholarship, church & family history, & interviews with tradition bearers provides insight into the Rock’s history & evolution over the last 175-plus years.
